When Neil made the difficult decision to hang up his boots in 1961, he had played a grand total of 183 games and was the first Clarence Player to reach the milestone of 150 games played. He was also the first Clarence Player to reach the milestone of 200 games played.
1957 was the year that Neil was acknowledged as having the best clubman at his disposal. In 1976, he was the captain of the Under 19s team, which he led to victory in the premiership competition in which they had been participating.
