by Martha Barrett Obituary, Death – We are sorry to be the one to tell you this, but Martha “Marti” Barrett departed this life on January 4, 2023. I’m sorry to have to break the news to you in this letter, but she passed away recently. We are making this decision despite the fact that I am filled to the brim with a profound sense of personal disappointment and remorse. She was the cherished mother of Mary Welander, who served as the State Representative for Connecticut’s 114th District.
This district included the majority of Derby, a piece of Hamden, and a little bit of Orange and Woodbridge. Her electoral district included portions of the cities of Derby, Hamden, and Orange, in addition to Woodbridge. Integrity was Mrs. Barrett’s guiding philosophy in all facets of her life, including her duties as a wife, mother, Gold Star mother, grandmother, and educator. Integrity was also important to Mrs. Barrett in all of these roles. In addition to this, she upheld this mindset in all of the obligations that came with each of these roles.
In every one of these roles, Mrs. Barrett placed a strong emphasis on acting in accordance with her values and principles. She made a lasting effect on everyone she talked to, and she left an indelible mark on each and every one of those people. Everyone in this location is in a state of complete and utter shock as a result of the devastating news that such a gifted leader has passed away at such a young age.
Despite this, her legacy will endure via the actions of those individuals whom she has had a significant impact on. They will continue the task that she began. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest condolences to Mayor Dziekan and the rest of the City of Derby on the loss of a family member or friend to whom they were close.
