Eddie Lopez Obituary, Death – Eddie Lopez was not only a cherished friend, but also a respected coworker and leader. He was also the heart and soul of Alma del Barrio. We must break the news to you that he has passed away, and we do it with a very heavy heart. Alma del Barrio lived and breathed through him. Eddie, who attended LMU and received his degree in 1978, has been employed by KXLU ever since he began his career there in 1976 as a student DJ for Alma del Barrio.

Eddie has graduated from Loyola Marymount University at this point. Over the course of more than 46 years, he was an incredible cornerstone of our station, and his contributions to the development of salsa music, artists, and performances were incalculably important. Eddie was someone who had a lot of concern for the radio station, he was the epitome of professionalism on the air at the radio station, he was a seasoned curator of all things salsa, and he was a dedicated advocate for the genre of music known as salsa, which is known for having a positive effect on people’s lives.

Eddie was a hardworking producer and an integral part of Alma del Barrio’s weekly planned programming not only throughout the pandemic but also up until a few months ago. This was the case both before and after the outbreak. Even as recently as a few months ago, this was still the situation. His physical presence will be sorely missed, but his legacy will endure indelibly not only in our teeny-tiny corner of these LMU blufftops, but also in the Salsa community as a whole and in the communities further afield.
We ask that you remember his family, the many friends he had, and the listeners who were faithful to him in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days. We will miss him greatly. It is probable that Eddie’s Sunday afternoon time slot, which spans from 2:00 to 6:00 and which he filled for so many years on our airways, will never quite feel the same again. Eddie occupied this time slot for so many years. I say a prayer that he is at peace for all of eternity. Godspeed, Eddie.
