Danny Thayer Obituary, Death – After a brief struggle with gastric cancer, Danny Thayer, who was 74 years old and from Grayling, passed away on Monday afternoon, December 17, 2018, at the home of his daughter in Charlevoix. He was the son of the late Robert Wales and Leora (Spencer) Thayer and was born on October 14, 1944 in Gilford Township, which is located within Tuscola County. In Reese, on February 4, 1967, he wed the woman who had previously been known as Susan K. Woizeschke.
On July 4, 2006, she passed away before him. Before arriving to Grayling in 1977, Dan worked at American Hoist in Bay City for a number of years during which time he was there. While he was a resident in Grayling, he established Thayer Machine Shop, which he later ran successfully for a number of years. Dan loved being outside and was an ardent fisherman, as well as a collector of firearms.
Because of his passion for hunting large game, he went all throughout North America, including the United States and Canada. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard and did his duty for his nation. His affiliations included the National Rifle Association and the Safari Club International. His children, Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Dena Thayer of Charlevoix, as well as four of his grandchildren, Spencer Kilpatrick of Traverse City, Case Kilpatrick of Levering, Daniel Spencer Thayer and Katie Marie Thayer, both of Georgetown, Kentucky, are among those who have carried on his legacy.
In addition, he is survived by his two sisters, Patricia “Patsy” Thayer of Gilford and Carole Jacques of Caro; his mother-in-law, Rose Woizeschke of Reese; as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Pierce, and brother-in-law, Louis Pierce, both of Reese; and his mother-in-sister law’s and brother-in-law. In addition to his wife and parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Donald Thayer as well as his sister Wilma Razek. His parents also passed away.
