Christy Thacker Death, Obituary – The boys’ and girls’ basketball double header that was supposed to take place between Cherokee and Volunteer on Friday evening has been moved to Thursday at 4 p.m. in order to give Cherokee’s teaching staff and students the opportunity to attend the memorial service for Volunteer teacher Christy Thacker, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday. The original game was supposed to take place on Friday.

Take note of the visitor hours on Friday evenings that are listed below: On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, Christy Ann Thacker, who resided in Rogersville and was 47 years old, passed away. She attended the Independence Missionary Baptist Church on a regular basis. She was the area director for the Area 32 Special Olympics, enjoyed going fishing, and was passionate about teaching. During her 17 years as a teacher, she had an impact on a great number of students’ lives.
Her grandfather Charlie Horton and her grandmother Minnie Massengill, as well as her sister Sandra Horton, passed away before her. Her father, George Horton, and her sister Sandra Horton all died before her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 29 years, Mike Thacker; her daughter, Ali Thacker (Katie Jones); her mother, Mary Marshall; her brothers, Donald Sellers, Mardy Horton (Melissa), and Chris Marshall (Stephanie); her adorable little dogs, Ellie Mae and Cash; and all of her Special Olympics Family. She was a member of the Special Olympics Family for many years.
