Christoph Seifriedsberger Obituary, Death – On January 12, Christoph Seifriedsberger, a student who had been planning to graduate in 2022, passed away while he was on a training tour in Italy with his teammates on the Austria National Team. Seifriedsberger was a member of the Austria National Team. When Christoph moved to Berkeley in the autumn of 2016, he almost immediately made an impression on the football team at the University of California. Christoph was not only an oarsman who put in a tremendous amount of effort and was a fierce rival, but he was also kind, beyond generous, and served as a selfless leader for all of the oarsmen who were connected to him in some manner. He worked really hard.
When Christoph was not coaching his teammates in the boathouse, you could frequently find him either mentoring teammates in the athlete study center, spending time in the Canyon House kitchen, or engaging in conversation in the International House dining hall. All of these activities took place in the International House. The International House served as the setting for each and every one of these events.
People who knew Christoph often remark on the sense of tranquility that accompanied their interactions with him when they met. They will also remember him for his enthusiasm for conversation and his eagerness to pay attention to the perspectives of others. During the time that Christoph was a member of the Austria National Rowing Team, he traveled the world competing in rowing and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about mental health issues. He has discussed the matter on a variety of forums, including while he was still a member of the Austria National Team.
As a result of Christoph’s passing, every member of the Cal Crew family who had the opportunity to spend time with him will experience a great sense of loss. During this trying time, we ask that the privacy of the Seifriedsberger family be respected, and that they be given the room and the opportunity to grieve in quiet.
