Bonnie Barrett Obituary, Death – An investigation is being conducted by the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office into a two-car collision that occurred on Sunday afternoon and resulted in the death of a 60-year-old lady from Ithaca. The incident took place on January 8 at approximately 3:13 p.m. on US 127 close to Madison Road in Pine River Township, as stated by the Gratiot County Sheriff Mike Morris.
A preliminary investigation found that a girl from Shepherd, Pennsylvania, who was 16 years old, was driving northbound when she crossed the median and collided head-on with a car that was headed south. The driver of the vehicle that was traveling in the southbound lane, 66-year-old Scott Barrett of Ithaca, and his wife, Bonnie Barrett, both sustained significant injuries and were sent to the MyMichigan Medical Center in Alma.
In the end, Bonnie Barrett was unable to survive the injuries she sustained. In addition, the Shepherd girl was taken to the hospital in Alma with injuries that have not been disclosed. According to Morris, the collision is still being looked into, but all of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.
The Alma Fire and Rescue Department as well as the accident reconstruction team from the Michigan State Police supported the Sheriff’s Office while they were on the scene.
