by Bert Borgmann Obituary, Death – On Monday, Bert Borgmann, who had been the longstanding assistant commissioner of the CHSAA and a significant force in Colorado preps, passed away as a result of complications following surgery. He was 67. Borgmann was employed by the association from 1988 until 2021, during which time he oversaw a number of different sports, the most prominent of which were basketball and baseball.
During his tenure as an executive with the CHSAA, he was responsible for a number of different sports and activities, including football, gymnastics, softball, soccer, music, and the establishment of the Hall of Fame. Broomfield High School and Colorado State University graduate Borgmann was a mainstay at high school competitions in the area for more than three decades. He began his career at CHSAA serving in the capacity of director of media and business relations.
According to Rhonda Blanford-Green, who served as the former commissioner of the association, Borgmann became a “foundational pillar” while assisting in bringing the organization into the current era. He was completely aware of the influence that high school athletics have on young people and the communities in which they live. He made it a point to travel to and speak at schools located in more rural locations. He felt it was important for the membership to be aware that the CHSAA administration was aware that the state encompassed more than just the metropolitan area.
